So, what about innovation and technology?
There
has been a lot of talk about innovation over time. Universities offer courses
on innovation; motivators speak on being innovative, and so do mentors and
professionals. After all talks about innovation, I decided on a short
write up, because I feel the need to innovate something (could be anything)
It is not news that one of the driving forces behind
innovation is necessity. Just like the good old saying: ‘necessity is the mother of invention’. Well, I am not going to bore
you with so much on innovation as a subject, but just a sneak peek into my
thoughts about this. I am amazed as to the mechanism behind planes, ships,
submarines (yeah, I know it’s all about physics bla bla bla, and it’s probably
straight forward for the science geeks), however, I am not ashamed to show my dearth
of knowledge in physics. After all, everyone is gifted in their own field (of
which I would not mention mine).
For
me, the most outstanding technology in terms of science will have to be the
field of medicine. Organ transplants never cease to amaze me, neither do
nuclear medicine, transfusions and Otolaryngology (please don’t faint at the sound of that,
always remember Google is your friend).
It’s just amazing how the human brain works.
I actually used to
believe the 10% myth about the brain, see here irrespective of how
absurd it did sound, however, thank goodness the claim has been refuted through
facts. Basically, as is seen in many cases, when there is a deep need, innovation is prompted.
In my personal view, the innovations championed by women are different from
those by men. No, I am not trying to be a feminist. Take a look at the some
examples of innovations championed by women: dishwasher, cooking stove,
disposable diapers, leukaemia fighting drugs, the bra (*winks*), the snugli
baby carrier. Anyway, I am sure you guess where I am going with this?
On a lighter note, I have seen some depictions of what women’s’ brains and a men’s brain comprise of, but I am sure this is a joke:
Now you know why you behave in certain ways as a
woman, and why certain things seem more important to you as a man ;)
Small wonder, this comes up regularly in many relationships:
